Jayden Seales get reprimand for Cummins send-off.
Jayden Seales, a fast bowler for the West Indies, was handed a demerit point and a 15% fine after his dismissal from Pat Cummins on the opening day of the Barbados Test match against Australia.
In the 55th over of Australia’s first innings, Cummins was caught at mid-off for 28 off 18 balls, and bowler Seales then pointed towards the dressing room.
In violation of article 2.5 of the ICC’s code of conduct, Seales was “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
Seales took 5 for 60 in Australia’s first innings and after the day’s play he said he “did not really mean anything” by the reaction and that “it was more a bit of frustration.”
“Pat hit a couple of good shots off me and I just showed him where the dressing room was and there wasn’t really anything in it.”
Seales now has two demerit points in a 24-month span for his second infraction.
West Indies finished the first day at 57 for 4, having dismissed Australia for 180. On the second day at the Kensington Oval, they were dismissed for 190 after the home team lost a number of controversial calls made by TV umpire Adrian Holdstock. West Indies coach Daren Sammy criticised Holdstock’s choices after they cut Australia to 92-4 in the third innings.
