Burnley sign Tuanzebe from Ipswich as he moves to the Premier League-bound side on a free transfer on a 1-year deal.
After his contract with Ipswich Town expired, centre-back Axel Tuanzebe was recruited by Burnley on a free transfer.
During the 2023–24 season, Tuanzebe made 45 appearances for the Tractor Boys in all competitions and helped them get promoted to the Premier League.
The 27-year-old, who made 22 appearances in the Premier League the previous season, has chosen to stay with Burnley, who were recently promoted, instead of signing a new contract with Ipswich.
According to reports, the DR Congo defender has agreed to a one-year contract with Turf Moor, making him head coach Scott Parker’s third summer acquisition.
“It became a very simple decision after speaking to the manager and the message was very clear, precise and straight to the point,” said Tuanzebe.
“It’s a new chapter for me, back in the vicinity of Manchester and home and I’m ready to continue my journey now at Burnley.”
Before deciding to support his home country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tuanzebe was an England age-group international and started his professional career with Manchester United.
The defender is expected to play in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, which starts in December, and has earned three caps for his nation.
On Saturday, August 16, Burnley will play Tottenham in the Premier League opener.
