UP Warriorz part ways with head coach Jon Lewis as the team appears to be looking for a fresh take after bottom finish.
After a three-year relationship that started in 2023 when the Women’s Premier League began, UP Warriorz and their head coach Jon Lewis have called it quits.
Lewis had a great start, leading Warriorz to the 2023 WPL playoffs in their first season. The Mumbai Indians, the eventual winners, defeated them. They had three victories out of eight games in 2024, finishing second from the bottom. The team had some upheaval in the most recent season as Deepti Sharma took over as captain after Alyssa Healy was sidelined due to injury. With three victories in eight games, Warriorz finished last in the standings.
Warriorz won nine of their twenty-five games overall while Lewis was their coach. Their 225 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this year holds the record for the greatest WPL total.
In addition to his twin responsibilities, Lewis had been the head coach of the England Women’s team from November 2022. After Australia won the Ashes 16 points to zero in March, he resigned from that role.
Lewis played top-flight cricket in England for nearly 20 years before he became a well-known coach. He was a reliable wicket-taker for Gloucestershire, in the main, Surrey, and Sussex, where he retired in 2014. In addition, he played in two T20Is, 13 ODIs, and a Test.
