Luke Williams is new Southern Brave Women’s head coach after Charlotte Edwards left the role for England job.
Luke Williams replaces Edwards as Southern Brave head coach for women’s Hundred 2025.
The Southern Brave’s new head coach for the Women’s Hundred 2025 is Luke Williams. He took over for Charlotte Edwards, who was just named England Women’s head coach.
Williams, who has been Edwards’ assistant at Brave since the first women’s Hundred, has a stellar coaching reputation. Before taking home their first championship in 2023, Brave placed second in 2021 and 2022. In addition, he led the Adelaide Strikers to their first Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) championship in 2022 and their second consecutive in 2023. In the Women’s Premier League 2024, he was also the head coach as Royal Challengers Bengaluru took home their first trophy for both men and women.
Edwards was one of the consulting coaches for the home series against the West Indies last month, following his appointment as England’s manager. He will recognise South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt, who plays for the Strikers in the WBBL, at Brave.
“It’s a privilege to take charge of Southern Brave this year from Charlotte Edwards,” Williams said in a statement. “Having worked with the team since for a number of years, we have an excellent group of players and staff and recruited well in the draft earlier this year, so hopefully we can get back to Finals Day and lift the trophy this summer.”
Marcus Trescothick, a former opener for England, has been named the Southern Brave’s batting coach for the men’s Hundred 2025. Jimmy Adams, who will coach Hampshire in the men’s One Day Cup in August, was replaced by him.
In addition to being the England men’s batting coach, Trescothick served as the team’s temporary coach for white-ball cricket in July of last year. He will be coaching the Hundred for the first time.
