Kyle Walker seals shock £5m move to Burnley from Manchester City.
After agreeing to a two-year contract with the Premier League newcomers, Kyle Walker made a surprise move from Manchester City to Burnley for a possible £5 million.
When it became clear that he would be permitted to leave City, the England international was keen to remain in the northwest of the country. Although Everton had expressed interest in the right-back, he ultimately decided to rejoin Burnley’s head coach and former Tottenham teammate Scott Parker.
“I’m delighted to be here,” said the 35-year-old. “When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at. He’s done an amazing job here, guiding the club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we’re looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world.
“Burnley had a tremendous campaign last season, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad.”
Walker spent the second part of the season on loan at Milan after requesting to leave during the winter transfer window, despite having won 17 major titles during his ten years at the Etihad Stadium. Walker looked for a move to a Premier League club after the Serie A team chose not to make the agreement permanent.
Walker, who has 96 caps and has played for England in every team under Thomas Tuchel, is hoping to represent his nation in the sixth major event and thinks playing in the Premier League would help him reach that goal.
Walker becomes Burnley’s fifth signing of the summer after they won promotion from the Championship, having finished second last season behind Leeds.
