
Harry Brook is the new number 1 Test batsman as he replaces Joe Root on the top of the pile in latest rankings.
Harry Brook displaces Root to be No. 1 Test batter, Gill moves up to No. 6.
According to the ICC rankings, England batsman Harry Brook is currently the world’s top-ranked Test batter after scoring 158 in the opening innings at Edgbaston. Joe Root, his teammate, dropped to second position, and Brook took his place at the top, 18 points ahead of Root.
With a career-best rating point total of 807, India Test skipper Shubman Gill climbed 15 spots to No. 6 with to his historic centuries of 269 and 161 in the second Test, which India won by 336 runs. Kane Williamson (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth), and Steven Smith (fifth) are included on the charts between Brook, Root, and Gill.
Jamie Smith, an England batsman and wicketkeeper, was also one of the winners following the Edgbaston Test. He rose 16 ranks to No. 10 thanks to his two-fold efforts of a career-best 184*, in which he and Brook saved England from 84 for 5 in the first innings and 88 in the second.
Wiaan Mulder, a South African all-rounder, rose in the batters’ and all-rounders’ rankings after recording a massive 367* against Zimbabwe in the second Test. Although he rose 12 spots to No. 3 among all-rounders, he also soared 34 spots to No. 22 among batters. The all-rounders’ standings are still topped by Ravindra Jadeja.
Following strong performances in their 2-1 victory over Bangladesh, Sri Lanka’s captain Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis moved up in the ODI rankings for hitters. After scoring 225 runs throughout the series, including hits of 124 and 56, which earned him Player-of-the-Series, Kusal moved up ten slots into the top ten. After his game-winning innings of 106 and 58 in the first and third ODIs, respectively, Asalanka moved up two spots to No. 6.
