Forest consider legal action against Spurs over Gibbs-White.
According to sources who spoke to BBC Sport, Nottingham Forest is thinking about suing Tottenham for their interest in midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
According to reports, Forest is investigating if a particular secrecy provision in Gibbs-White’s contract’s £60 million release clause has been broken.
In an attempt to activate that release clause, Gibbs-White was scheduled to have a physical on Friday.
Tottenham’s actions in pursuing the England international have infuriated Forest, who maintain that their threat to file a lawsuit is sincere.
It is said that Forest maintains that they have not granted Spurs authorisation to talk with Gibbs-White and that they will stop at nothing to stop the trade from happening.
According to Premier League regulations, clubs must obtain consent before speaking with players who are under contract with another team.
Tottenham is aware of the circumstances, but they remain optimistic that a deal can be reached.
In August 2022, Gibbs-White signed a five-year contract with Forest after leaving Wolves in a move valued at up to £42.5 million. In his three years at Forest, he has made 118 appearances, with 28 assists and 18 goals.
Under interim manager Lee Carsley, he made his England debut as a substitute in the September Nations League victory over the Republic of Ireland. Most recently, he came off the bench at the City Ground’s 3-1 friendly loss to Senegal under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
