Bengal include Shami in list of probables for 2025-26 domestic season, including the Ranji Trophy as well.
Bengal’s extended list of 50 probables for the forthcoming domestic season includes Mohammed Shami, who has not played since the IPL 2025 and is not a member of the India Test squad in England. He might play for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, which begins on August 28 and returns to its previous inter-zonal structure. This competition could represent Shami’s return to competitive cricket.
Since the Champions Trophy in early 2025, Shami, a veteran of 64 Test matches, 108 ODIs, and 25 T20Is, has not represented India. Even though he was one of India’s most costly bowlers in the tournament, taking 5.68 per over, Shami took nine wickets in five games, which was tied for the most by India with Varun Chakravarthy, who took his nine wickets in three games. India won the tournament, defeating New Zealand in the final.
Shami’s new side, Sunrisers Hyderabad, finished sixth in the IPL after that, and he didn’t do well either, taking six wickets in nine bowling innings at an average of 11.23 per over.
All of this followed a protracted period of unemployment during which he underwent ankle surgery and experienced knee pain. He last played for India in the ODI World Cup final in November 2023, and he returned for the T20I series against England at home in January 2024. In late 2024, he made his domestic return with Bengal.
All of the anticipated names, including Abhimanyu Easwaran, Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Abishek Porel, are on the list of probables for Bengal.
