Kamboj drafted in as cover after Akash and Arshdeep injuries after having impressed in the recent outings for India A.
As a backup pacer, Anshul Kamboj is expected to travel to England with the Indian team. Due to injuries to Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep, the Haryana right-arm seamer has been called up.
The hero of India’s historic Test victory at Edgbaston, Akash, is reportedly recovering from an injury that may prevent him from playing in the fourth Test in Manchester. After bowling the 30th over of the England innings, the fast bowler, who had dismissed Harry Brook in the second innings at Lord’s, was spotted holding his hip and moving carefully. Then, as Shubman Gill looked to Mohammed Siraj to bowl with Jasprit Bumrah, he walked off the pitch.
After a little while, Akash came back to the pitch, but he didn’t bowl another over. At three down as the night hawk, he came out to bat towards the close of the day and lasted eleven deliveries. In the meantime, Arshdeep is recovering from a finger injury he suffered during practice in Beckenham prior to the opening Test of the series.
Although India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate hinted at keeping Jasprit Bumrah on for the pivotal fourth Test in Manchester, Akash’s injury is a setback for the team, which is also trying to control Bumrah’s workload on this tour. India is behind 2-1 in the five-Test series and has everything on the line after a heartbreaking defeat at Lord’s.
Before the series began, Kamboj made two appearances for India A against the England Lions, both of which were impressive. He now returns to the UK. In two of the three innings in which he bowled more than ten overs, the fast bowler gave up runs at a little over three an over. He scored an undefeated fifty-one and took five wickets in the three innings.
