Nitish ruled out of the Test series vs England as he suffered the injury while training in the gym on Sunday.
Knee injury set to rule Nitish Kumar Reddy out of England tour.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, an all-rounder for India, is expected to miss the rest of the England trip due to a knee injury. According to ESPNcricinfo, Reddy sustained the injury on Sunday while working out in the gym, and scans showed ligament damage.
Fast bowlers Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are also dealing with injuries that may prevent them from playing in the match, which is further setback to India’s preparations for the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Manchester, which begins on July 23.
India’s team now includes Anshul Kamboj as a seam-bowling replacement.
In addition, Jasprit Bumrah was only allowed to play in three of the five Test matches in the series due to workload management. With the players receiving an eight-day break between the third and fourth Tests, India has stated that they are “leaning towards” including Bumrah at Old Trafford, where he played in the first and third Tests.
Reddy participated in the second and third Test matches after missing the Leeds series opener. He just managed two runs and six overs without a wicket, thus he didn’t have much of an influence in Birmingham. Nevertheless, he scored 30 and 13 runs with the bat while taking important top-order wickets at Lord’s, dismissing openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in the same over in the first innings and dismissing Crawley in the second.
Although he would have fought for a spot with Dhruv Jurel, who might have been in the running to play as wicketkeeper at Old Trafford in the event that Rishabh Pant, who is recuperating from a finger injury, had to play as a specialist batter, Reddy would have been confident in his prospects of playing in the fourth Test.
In all three Test matches thus far, India has used a seam-bowling all-rounder. Shardul Thakur started the first Test before Reddy took his position in Birmingham. If Reddy is not available and India wants to stick with the same lineup, Thakur might make a comeback at Old Trafford.
As the fourth Test begins, England is ahead 2-1 in the series.
