2025 Asia Cup to be played in September, expected to be starting from 9th September and spanning till 28th Sept.
The 2025 Asia Cup will take place in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to September 28, as confirmed by Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB and president of the ACC. Eight teams, including the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Hong Kong, and the five full members of the ACC (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka), will compete in the most recent edition, which will be played in the T20I format.
The Asia Cup was one of the main topics of discussion at the ACC’s annual general meeting in Dhaka on Thursday. The May military conflict between India and Pakistan cast doubt on the outcome of the tournament’s 17th edition. Once that meeting was over, Naqvi spoke during a press conference.
Although India is the tournament’s official host, a three-year agreement between the BCCI and the PCB will provide the opposing team with a neutral location for tournaments played in India or Pakistan. The deal was made in advance of this year’s Champions Trophy, which was hosted in Pakistan. All of India’s matches, including the one against the hosts, Pakistan, were held in Dubai. Dubai also hosted the final, to which India advanced and prevailed.
Although it is thought to be likely, it has not yet been formally confirmed whether India and Pakistan will be in the same group, as has been the norm for more than ten years.
It provides for what is by far the tournament’s most lucrative fixture. The Asia Cup structure means that if both sides are placed in the same group, there will probably be at least two India-Pakistan matches, with the potential for three if both teams get to the final. However, there has never been an Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan.
Following their victory over Sri Lanka in the 2023 final, India is the reigning champions. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the 2022 final to win the previous T20I tournament.
