
Van Schalkwyk creates history in youth ODIs by becoming the the first player to score a double century against Zimbabwe.
Jorich Van Schalkwyk, the 18-year-old South Africa Under-19 opener, became the first batter in men’s Youth ODI history to register a double-century.
In the opening match of the tri-series in Harare, Van Schalkwyk hit 215 runs in 153 balls against Zimbabwe Under-19.
Van Schalkwyk helped South Africa reach 385 in the first innings with 19 fours and six sixes in his 153-ball innings. Along the way, he broke the record that Sri Lanka Under-19’s Hasitha Boyagoda (191) had set in 2018. Zimbabwe Under-19 collapsed for 107 after the total.
Earlier in the week, Van Schalkwyk hit an undefeated 164 against Bangladesh Under-19, shattering the previous South Africa Under-19 record for best individual score.
He set a new record on Friday, spending 46.2 overs and 212 minutes at the crease.
