Arsenal complete £64m deal to sign striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting.
By finalising the £55 million acquisition of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting, Arsenal has finally found a solution to their striker dilemma.
It is believed that the 27-year-old Sweden international, who led Sporting to the championship with 39 goals the previous season and scored a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City, has agreed to a five-year contract at the Emirates. With performance-related add-ons, Gyökeres’ move might cost up to £64 million, bringing Arsenal’s close-season expenditures to close to £200 million.
Arsenal confirmed the news with a brief post on X that read: “This is where you need to be. Viktor Gyökeres is a Gunner.”
He joins defender Cristhian Mosquera (£13 million), midfielder Martin Zubimendi (£60 million), goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5 million), midfielder Christian Nørgaard (£10 million), and forward Noni Madueke (£48.5 million) as Mikel Arteta’s sixth summer acquisition.
It is anticipated that Gyökeres would get to know his new teammates during Arsenal’s current preseason tour of Singapore and Hong Kong. Prior to their tour’s final match against Tottenham in Hong Kong on July 31, the Gunners take on Newcastle at the Singapore National Stadium on Sunday.
Manager Arteta said: “Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with his intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat.
“We’re excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him.”
