David Wiese to captain St Lucia Kings in CPL 2025.
The St Lucia Kings have announced David Wiese as their captain for the 2025 CPL, which will begin next week. They are the reigning winners.
Under the direction of Faf du Plessis, who chose to play in the Hundred over the CPL this year but has since withdrawn from that competition as well due to groin surgery, St Lucia had won the title.
“I am absolutely humbled to be named your captain,” Wiese said while thanking the franchise and the fans. “This season, we will be playing with passion, heart and unity. You will see us give everything for each other and for you. And fans, we need you with us to pack the stadiums, lift the vibe and let’s paint Saint Lucia blue. Let’s make this a special season.”
“David Wiese has been a part of the family for a long time,” head coach Daren Sammy said. “He has been with us for a number of years and has put on some excellent performances. We cannot wait to start our first home game on August 23rd. We know Saint Lucia Kings are the best fans and you will come out at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground and paint it blue, as you support our new captain and our team.”
Since joining St Lucia in 2021, Wiese has participated in 26 games for the team. Wiese played cricket for Namibia until his retirement in 2024, despite having represented South Africa from 2013 to 2016. In a franchise competition administered by a Test nation, he became the first player from an Associate team to hold the position of captain full-time. In the past, he has served as captain of the Northern Superchargers in the Hundred and the Lahore Qalandars in the PSL.
Tim David was just signed by St Lucia, who selected him in the first round of the draft. St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons is the first match of the CPL on August 14. On August 17, St. Lucia begins their campaign in North Sound against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
