Crystal Palace keen to sell captain Marc Guéhi before transfer window closes.
Steve Parish, the chairman of Crystal Palace, has acknowledged that the team wants to offload captain Marc Guéhi during current transfer window in order to prevent losing him for nothing come summertime.
The England defender is desired by several Premier League teams, notably Liverpool and Newcastle, and has reached the last 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park. Arne Slot’s team, which lost to Palace on penalties in the Community Shield on Sunday, is reportedly Guéhi’s top choice, despite their reluctance to pay Palace’s £40 million asking price thus far.
Last summer, Newcastle made many proposals above £50 million for the 24-year-old, but Palace turned down Tottenham’s offer in January, which might have reached £70 million. However, Parish admitted that they could not afford to let Guéhi finish out his contract when asked if they would be open to letting him go this month if they received a good offer.
“We’d have to do that, of course,” he said. “For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately. [Last summer] Joachim [Anderson] went [to Fulham] and we couldn’t afford to lose both. We then had another bid in January but that was a different situation. We’ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”
