Selection committee of India to have two changes, but BCCI hasn’t specified which selectors are going to be replaced.
Two changes likely in Agarkar-led India men’s selection committee.
The BCCI sent a press release on Friday inviting new applications for the two new members of the Ajit Agarkar-led senior India men’s selection panel. The application deadline is September 10 at 5 p.m. IST.
Just which two zones will get new selectors is unclear at this time. However, no member of the current panel has gone over the existing cumulative five-year term rule.
Two of SS Das (Central), Subroto Bannerjee (East), and S Sharath (South) will probably be replaced because Agarkar’s contract is scheduled to expire in the 2026 T20 World Cup and Ajay Ratra was only recently inducted (in October 2024).
Sharath was elevated to the senior selection committee in 2023 after serving as the junior panel’s chairman in 2021. Following Chetan Sharma’s dismissal, Das briefly held the position of acting chairman of the senior panel.
Agarkar, who is expected to continue as chairman after his contract was extended till the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in February or March of next year, took Das’ place. In contrast, Bannerjee became a member of the panel in early 2023.
The new applicants must have played at least seven Test matches or thirty first-class matches, or ten ODIs and twenty first-class matches, and must have retired from competition at least five years ago.
Since the Neetu David-led committee’s mandate ends in September, there will also be a change to the women’s selection panel. Their final duty was the women’s ODI World Cup squad, which David & Co. selected earlier this week.
Since he only joined in 2023, Shyama Shaw is currently the only one most likely to stay. The other panellists, Renu Margrate, Aarti Vaidya, and David, will have to step down from their positions. The South does not yet have a female selector.
The junior selection committee, which is now led by former Karnataka wicketkeeper Thilak Naidu, is also probably going to undergo a change. The other panellists are Krishen Mohan (Central), Pathik Patel (West), Harvinder Singh Sodhi (North), and Ranadeb Bose (East). When Sharath was promoted to the senior panel in 2023, Naidu was appointed chairman.
