The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is set to change the sporting landscape of Andhra Pradesh by building one of India’s largest cricket stadiums in Amaravati. The ambitious project, already in its planning phase, aims to position the city as a global sports hub while meeting international standards for hosting major cricketing events.
Planned across nearly 60 acres within a larger 200-acre Sports City, the stadium is expected to accommodate over 1.2 lakh spectators—making it bigger than the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This monumental venue will not just serve as a cricket ground but as a multi-purpose facility equipped with world-class amenities, including state-of-the-art floodlights, corporate boxes, media centers, and eco-friendly infrastructure with solar power and water conservation systems.
The estimated cost of the project is around ₹800 crore, with support anticipated from the BCCI and state-level funding. Once completed, it will be the epicenter of major cricket tournaments, including domestic championships, IPL fixtures, and potentially ICC events. ACA’s broader vision includes integrating this stadium into Amaravati’s planned Sports City, which will feature multiple sports facilities and training academies.
In addition to hosting matches, the stadium is designed to serve as a talent development hub with a dedicated cricket academy to nurture young players from the region. This move is expected to give a significant boost to grassroots cricket in Andhra Pradesh, creating a pipeline for future national and international players.
The project’s strategic importance is further amplified by the state’s ambition to host the 2029 National Games. Amaravati’s new infrastructure will be central to those plans, driving economic growth through tourism and event-related revenue while creating thousands of jobs during the construction and operational phases.
ACA officials have emphasized that the stadium will be a benchmark in terms of both scale and quality, setting new standards in Indian sports infrastructure. Fans and analysts see this as a transformative moment, not just for Andhra cricket but for Indian cricket as a whole—expanding the game’s reach beyond traditional strongholds and opening up opportunities for global attention.
If timelines are met, Amaravati’s stadium will stand as a symbol of modern cricket architecture and ambition, cementing its place among the world’s premier sporting arenas.
