India’s women’s cricket team will launch its World Cup preparations with an intensive week-long camp in Visakhapatnam starting August 25. This camp marks the final and most crucial phase before the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 and the ODI series against Australia, giving players a chance to sharpen skills, strategize, and acclimatize to match conditions.
The decision to hold the camp in Vizag is deliberate—the ACA-VDCA Stadium will host two significant World Cup fixtures: India’s clashes against South Africa on October 9 and Australia on October 12. Training at the actual venue is expected to provide a critical advantage by familiarizing players with pitch behavior, boundary dimensions, and coastal weather conditions. Notably, only senior players Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Sneh Rana have prior ODI experience at this ground, dating back to 2014.
Following a rigorous 10-day training block in Bengaluru that focused on fitness, fielding, and tactical drills, this camp pivots to fine-tuning skills under match-like scenarios. Players will engage in nets sessions, power-hitting drills, and practice under lights to prepare for day-night conditions. Two high-intensity intra-squad matches are scheduled to simulate pressure environments and test combinations ahead of the series against Australia.
The full World Cup squad, along with reserve players, will participate in the camp, ensuring depth and flexibility in team planning. Key members from India A, including Radha Yadav, will join the group after completing current commitments, further strengthening the talent pool and fostering healthy competition for spots.
After this camp, India faces a challenging home series against Australia, starting mid-September in Mullanpur and concluding in Delhi. These ODIs will serve as the perfect dress rehearsal for the marquee event. The team will then move to Bengaluru for official warm-up fixtures against England and New Zealand before the World Cup opener on September 30 in Guwahati.
This structured preparation is aimed at ensuring India enters the tournament in peak form. Acclimatization to local conditions, strategic consistency, and full-squad integration could be game-changing factors as Harmanpreet Kaur and her team look to claim India’s maiden Women’s World Cup title. If this roadmap is executed flawlessly, the Women in Blue will begin their campaign not just hopeful, but fully primed to dominate.
