Pep Guardiola believes Man City will have a better PL season as he points to positive signs he seen in training.
Pep Guardiola confident of good season for Manchester City after seeing improvement.
Although he wants to see consistency from the club, Pep Guardiola says he can tell Manchester City will have a successful season because of the squad’s noticeable progress, beginning with the Club World Cup.
They had a mixed start to the season after crushing Wolves at Molineux on the first weekend, but a home loss to Tottenham brought them back to earth. In Sunday’s final game before the international break, City will try to bounce back from that defeat at Brighton. For now, the two-week break will prevent them from gaining momentum, but when they do play again against Manchester United, it will mark the beginning of a demanding domestic and European schedule.
Asked why he was feeling confident, the City head coach said: “The way we are training and the way we are competing. We have to improve, but there are things that I would say are a sign. When I see these things in games, like in the United States of America, I like it. We won six Premier Leagues in eight years and when we started the season I wouldn’t say I knew we were going to win the league. But I see things that I like.
“Even against Spurs I saw many things that I like my teams to do. I want to do some of them much, much better, but that is completely normal at this stage of the season. You will see through the results. When you are able to win four, five or six games in a row, or you’re competing well, or being stable in many departments, conceding few and scoring much more. After that I will say: ‘Our consistency is back.’”
After the Manchester derby, Napoli will visit on Thursday, September 18, to start the first stage of the Champions League. The possibility to develop rhythm will come from playing twice a week until the end of January. Guardiola is waiting for the five new players—three of whom made their debuts at the Club World Cup—to fully fit in with a club that has changed its approach after finishing a dismal third in the Premier League and without a single trophy altogether.
“Maybe in two months I will say how wrong I was, but right now I have seen, since we travelled to the States for the World Cup, I have seen things that I like,” Guardiola said.
