Zimbabwe and Namibia book spots in Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
Ten countries will battle for four berths in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup in England in June and July, with Namibia and Zimbabwe securing their seats in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in Nepal early next year. Namibia and Zimbabwe have never before made it to a women’s World Cup in any format.
In addition to the United States, Bangladesh, Ireland, Thailand, and Nepal, they have already qualified for the global qualification event. The final three teams—two from Europe and one from the East Asia-Pacific region—will be drawn from the other regional qualifiers.
In Thursday’s first semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Division One Qualifier in Windhoek, Zimbabwe defeated Uganda to earn a spot. Namibia secured their place by defeating Tanzania in the second semi-final. On September 6, they will compete in the Africa regional qualification final.
Ten teams are split into two groups of five each for the T20 World Cup qualifying. Prior to the final, the top six teams advance to the Super Six stage. The competition runs from January 12 until February 2. The Lower Mulpani Cricket Stadium and the Upper Mulpani Cricket Stadium in Kathmandu will host the games.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, 12 teams will compete in the 2026 T20 World Cup, up from 10 in 2024. After defeating South Africa in the Dubai final the previous year, New Zealand is the reigning champion.
