The French champions announced that Luis Enrique, the coach of Paris Saint-Germain, would have surgery after breaking his collarbone in a bike accident on Friday.
PSG has won three straight games to start their Ligue 1 championship defence, and the 55-year-old Spaniard, who loves cycling, led the squad to their first Champions League victory last season.
“Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone,” the club said in a statement. “The club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course.”
PSG’s next match, due to the international break, is against Lens at home on September 14; three days later, they face Atalanta to begin their Champions League championship defence.
Ousmane Dembélé suffered an injury during France’s World Cup qualification victory over Ukraine and hobbled off the pitch, dealing the European champions even another setback. He appeared to have a right hamstring strain as he left.
