Long throws being considered by Tuchel as key England weapon as the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to loom closer.
At the World Cup next summer, England manager Thomas Tuchel wants his squad to play long balls and throw long throws.
With four victories from four games, the Three Lions lead Group K in qualification and are five points ahead of Serbia, whom they will visit on Tuesday.
During qualification, Tuchel’s team has played fewer long balls as a percentage of passes (4%) than England under Gareth Southgate (8.8%).
Of those four games, however, two have been against Andorra.
In contrast, long throws have become more common in English football in recent years.
“I told you – the long throw-in is back,” Tuchel said. “But we do not have a lot of time.
“But once we arrive at the World Cup, all these things matter, so we will also talk about long throw-ins, we will talk about long kicks from the goalkeeper and not only playing short.”
“But we cannot put everything into four days of training. But these things will matter. And let’s see,” Tuchel said.
“I need to reflect now with my assistant coaches. All these patterns are back and crosses are back as well.”
