Will stick to my philosophy, says defiant Amorim after Derby loss while also adding they can “change the man’.
Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, has reaffirmed his dedication to his contentious 3-4-3 system, stating that he will stick and not alter it and that you must “change the man” in order to adopt a different philosophy.
With four points from four games following their 3-0 loss to Manchester City, United has had their worst league season start since 1992–93 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
That season ended United’s 26-year title drought, but before hopes of a rematch begin to grow, it was a 42-game season that, more significantly, lacked a transfer window. In November, Ferguson had the opportunity to purchase Eric Cantona, altering the course of events.
Many people have questioned Amorim regarding his formation.
He has repeatedly defended it and stated that he will not alter.
He took things a step further than he usually does while seated in the media conference room at Etihad Stadium on Sunday night.
“I understand and accept it is not a record you should have in Manchester United,” he said.
“There are a lot of things, you have no idea what happened during these months but I am not going to change.
“When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.”
“I understand how football is and results dictate all the narratives,” he said.
“We are doing better but the results don’t show that. I understand the record and I understand the decision that comes with that.
“My message is I am going to give everything and do everything that is best for the club.
“Then it is not my decision, the last. Until I am here, I will do my best and I am suffering more than them.”
