Australia bowl with Voll and Brown in; India welcome Reddy and Renuka back.
Australia chose to bowl in the second women’s ODI match against India at New Chandigarh after Alyssa Healy called it at the toss. Ahead of the Women’s World Cup, which begins later this month on the subcontinent, Australia wanted to “get out in the heat” because the temperature was 31 degrees Celsius and was predicted to get hotter in the afternoon.
Prior to the match, India was dealt a shock when star batsman Jemimah Rodrigues was declared out of the series due to a viral fever. She was replaced in the squad by Tejal Hasabnis, one of the standbys. However, by adding seamer Renuka Singh and all-rounder Arundhati Reddy to the XI, India decided to strengthen their bowling. After a protracted leave of absence to recuperate from a stress fracture, Renuka returned.
India rested Shree Charani, who was wicketless in her 8.1 overs on Sunday, while Rodrigues was a forced substitution. Rodrigues batted at No. 5, where Deepti Sharma was scheduled to bat.
In an effort to give their players more playing time before the World Cup, Australia also made two alterations of their own. In her maiden international encounter in India, Georgia Voll, who played as a replacement for UP Warriorz in the WPL 2025, was supposed to open the batting in place of Phoebe Litchfield, who is recovering from a minor quad injury following a brilliant 88 in the first game.
Darcie Brown, who played two one-dayers against India A at home in August, came in for her first international since March with Kim Garth making way.
