Rishabh Pant to miss home Tests against West Indies.
Rishabh Pant, an Indian batsman and wicketkeeper, will not play in the two-match home Test series against the West Indies, which begins in Ahmedabad on October 2.
September 24 is the date of India’s series selection meeting. The 15 players selected by the Ajit Agarkar-led panel are two fewer than the team that played in India’s most recent home series, the New Zealand Tests, in October of last year.
During the fourth Test in Manchester, Pant, who was India’s vice-captain in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England this year, broke his left foot. In the team for the last Test at the Oval, N Jagadeesan took his position after he hobbled out to bat in the first innings. Pant is presently in Bengaluru at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
Before he can resume batting and keeping, Pant is reportedly awaiting additional information from the BCCI medical team and has been undergoing strength and conditioning. No specific timetable for his return is provided. Following the West Indies series, India will begin a white-ball series in Australia on October 19.
Dhruv Jurel is anticipated to be India’s wicketkeeper throughout the West Indies series in lieu of Pant. Jurel took wickets in the last two Test matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy while playing for Australia A in Lucknow. The backup might be Jagadeesan, who started the opening game against Australia A and switched keeping responsibilities with Jurel.
The World Test Championship (WTC) includes the India-West Indies Tests. After a 2-2 draw in the five-match England series, India is now ranked third in the WTC standings. After three straight losses, the West Indies are currently in sixth place.
