Arundhati Reddy hit during practice match ahead of World Cup as she was wheeled off during the game against England.
Medium-pace all-rounder Arundhati Reddy was carried off the pitch during India’s first formal warm-up at the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru on Thursday, giving the team a scare ahead of the World Cup 2025 campaign.
After India, led by Jemimah Rodrigues, chose to bowl first, the incident happened in the thirteenth over of England’s batting. Arundhati was able to squeeze in a dot after giving up a six off the second and two consecutive no-balls. Heather Knight, the hitter, shot the dot back in her direction, accidentally hitting the bowler on her left knee.
Arundhati collapsed to the ground in agony right away, and after being helped by colleagues to the ropes, she proceeded to the CoE in a wheelchair for an instant check. The two deliveries left in the over were sent down by skipper Rodrigues.
Although the precise amount and type of Arundhati’s injury are yet unknown, the fact that she was able to walk again during the game’s rain-forced pause, albeit with a limp, is encouraging. With India’s World Cup start less than a week away, she did not participate in the match any more.
At the skills training in Vizag, Yastika Bhati tore his ACL, dealing India a serious injury setback ahead of the home World Cup. It seems improbable that Bhatia will recover in time for the Women’s Premier League’s fourth season, which will take place in January and February of 2026. In the meanwhile, India substituted Uma Chetry. Since then, Bhatia has had the surgery, and early next month, she will go to the CoE for rehabilitation.
Renuka Thakur, who herself made her comeback in the previous series against Australia after spending almost five months on the sidelines and in a battle against time, leads India’s pace bowling unit among the 15.
