Donald Trump warns World Cup games may be moved from ‘dangerous’ cities.
Donald Trump has threatened to relocate World Cup games from host cities he considers unsafe to other locations.
The US president claimed that San Francisco and Seattle were “run by radical left lunatics who don’t know what they’re doing” and promised to ensure their safety. Both Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, which is an hour distant from San Francisco, and Seattle’s Lumen Field are scheduled to host six games during the finals.
After threatening to send federal troops to Los Angeles and Washington, DC, Trump has now vowed to send them to Chicago. He promised to make Chicago safe for the World Cup. There are no games in the city.
“If any city we think is going to be even a little bit dangerous for the World Cup … because they’re playing in so many cities, we won’t allow it,” said the 79-year-old. “We’ll move it around a little bit. But I hope that’s not going to happen.”
The draw for the World Cup – which will be co-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico – takes place in Washington DC on 5 December.
