Pak women bat first as Bangladesh hand debut to Haider.
In the first Women’s World Cup match held in Colombo, Fatima Sana, playing in her 50th ODI for Pakistan, decided to bat first in the sweltering heat. Both teams will need to control their energy levels as the game progresses because Sana has saved her team from having to play in 32 degree heat, but it is only predicted to drop to about 27 degrees after midnight.
It was “okay,” according to Bangladesh’s skipper Nigar Sultana, for her team to field first even though she would have also opted to bat. As a result, Rubya Haider, who will bat first alongside Fargana Hoque, will have more time to enjoy her first ODI.
With Sultana slated at number four and an attack that features four spinners, Bangladesh has opted for a well-known starting lineup. Nishita Akter offers an offspin alternative, while Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan, and Shorna Akter bowl legspin. Their sole seamen is Marufa Akter.
Bangladesh has had multiple camps to prepare, but they haven’t played a game since earning a spot in the competition in April. In contrast, Pakistan recently defeated South Africa in a series in which Sidra Amin hit two hundreds. Sana will bat at number six, and she will bat at number three. Along with all-rounder Natalia Pervaiz and Diana Baig, she is one of three seam possibilities. They also have three spinners: Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, and Rameen Shami.
Pakistan have only won one of their last 21 World Cup matches while Bangladesh have won one match in their World Cup history, against Pakistan in 2022.
