Located within the Rajgir Sports Complex in Nalanda district, the stadium is designed to elevate Bihar’s presence in national and international cricket.
Modeled after the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground, the stadium features a seating capacity of 45,000 spectators. Constructed at an estimated cost of ₹633 crore, it includes modern amenities such as dressing rooms, a gymnasium, VIP lounges, media galleries, and automated drainage systems. The playing surface combines high-quality red soil from Maharashtra with black soil from Mokama for auxiliary pitches. State-of-the-art LED floodlights and electronic scoreboards have been installed, ensuring compliance with BCCI standards for hosting international matches.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also distributed appointment letters to 87 medal-winning athletes and awarded ₹8 crore to 812 sportspersons, demonstrating the state’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing talent. The event underscored Bihar’s broader vision of combining infrastructure development with athlete support to strengthen its sporting ecosystem.
The stadium is set to host its first international match in 2026, with the Bihar cricket team slated to play the inaugural game. Its world-class facilities are expected to attract national and international teams, creating new opportunities for local players and drawing cricket enthusiasts from across the country. The development is also anticipated to boost tourism and stimulate the local economy of Rajgir.
Equipped with modern training facilities, high-quality pitches, and spectator amenities, the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium positions Bihar as a serious contender in India’s sports landscape. It reflects a strategic investment in infrastructure aimed at long-term sports development and providing a platform for emerging talent.
The inauguration of this stadium is a significant step forward for Bihar, combining world-class cricket facilities with a vision to inspire the next generation of athletes. As matches are played and events hosted, the stadium is set to become a hub for cricketing excellence, attracting fans, players, and events, and cementing Rajgir’s place on India’s cricket map.
