Perry and Sidra Amin the gap between Australia and Pakistan on a pitch that might just bridge the gap between the sides.
Ellyse Perry and Sidra Amin highlight the contrasts in Australia and Pakistan.
“This wicket is in our favour. Here, we’ve played two games. No games have been played by Australia. However, they have several seasoned players who have played cricket in most nations. Their evaluation of the game is superior. Ahead of Pakistan’s World Cup match against Australia, whom they had never defeated, Sidra Amin made a somewhat interesting statement.
The general consensus is that the sluggish conditions, which Australia has not yet encountered at this tournament, could help close the gap between the two teams, even though Pakistan has lost both of their games in Colombo to Bangladesh and India. Just a little bit.
“They have played all over the world. They know the conditions better,” Amin said. “They play the WBBLs and the Hundreds, and come and play in Asian conditions as well. They take preparation very seriously. I’ve heard they prepare for Asian conditions with indoor sessions with the temperature up to 35-40 degrees [Celsius]. So they can train that way as well.”
Over the past few years, women’s cricket has expanded significantly, however some have seen faster growth than others. This disparity partly results from the quality of competition that each team is subjected to.
In fact, Australia has played two less ODIs than Pakistan in the three and a half years since the 2022 World Cup—32 versus 34. But 15 of those 32 matches have been against England and India, two of the most difficult opponents in international cricket. Only four games have been played between Pakistan and those two, and seven if you include Australia.
