Igor Tudor sacked by Juventus after poor run of results culminating in a miserable eight-game winless run.
Juventus sack manager Igor Tudor after after just seven months in the job.
After losing their past eight games in all competitions, Juventus fired head coach Igor Tudor, the Serie A team announced on Monday.
A day after their 1-0 loss against Lazio, the Italian team released a statement saying, “Juventus FC announces that it has today relieved Igor Tudor of his duties as coach of the men’s first team, along with his staff.” The club also stated that Massimo Brambilla, the head coach of the reserve squad, will temporarily assume the role of first team manager.
Thiago Motta was replaced by Tudor in March, making him Juventus’ first foreign manager since Didier Deschamps in 2006–07. The former centre back played for Juventus for almost ten years, during which time they won Serie A twice and advanced to the Champions League final.
Last season, Tudor led Juventus to fourth place in Serie A and Champions League qualification. However, after winning their first three league games, the team’s performance declined last month. Before losing three straight games to Como, Real Madrid, and Lazio in a single week, Juventus drew five straight games throughout all competitions.
“I think we prepared for the match in the right way, but we’re still missing something,” Tudor said after Sunday’s loss at Lazio. “There’s no need to dramatise the situation, we’re all responsible for this difficult period.”
Since 1969, when Luis Carniglia was replaced by Ercole Rabitti, Juventus has never had a management change before November of a season.
Juventus, who visit Udinese on Wednesday, are currently eighth in the Serie A standings, six points behind leaders Napoli, after failing to score in their previous four games.
