West Indies drop Motie over ‘dip in form’ for New Zealand T20I series.
The West Indies revealed their 15-man team for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which is set to take place from November 5 to November 13. Matthew Forde has returned from injury, and Gudakesh Motie has been left out to work on his bowling motion.
Forde has finished his rehabilitation after a shoulder issue that prevented him from playing cricket since July. Alongside his recall is Shamar Springer, who was brought in to bolster a seam attack that was weakened by injuries to Jediah Blades and Ramon Simmons, who are also out of the tour. So far, Springer has taken two wickets in two Twenty20 Internationals, the most recent of which was in October 2024. After 13 Twenty20 Internationals, Forde has 17 wickets.
The left-arm spinner Motie has been left out due to what CWI said a “recent dip in form” caused by technical problems with his action. He bowled just one over for 11 runs in a single match during the T20I series, but he recorded stats of 0 for 44, 3 for 65, and 1 for 53 in three ODIs during the trip of Bangladesh.
Prior to representing the Paarl Royals in the SA20 in December, he will collaborate with experts from the Royals Sports Group to resolve those issues. Motie is still anticipated to play a “key role” for them at the T20 World Cup the following year, according to a statement from CWI.
Forde, a right-arm seamer who suffered a shoulder injury during the summer, is one of the team’s two fast bowlers, along with Jayden Seales; however, all-rounders Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, and Springer increase their seam-bowling options. Shamar Joseph’s shoulder pain during training in Bangladesh last month has kept him out of action.
Brandon King, Alick Athanaze, Ackeem Auguste, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, and Amir Jangoo are the batters on the tour, led by T20I skipper Shai Hope.
Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein, and Khary Pierre will work in the spin department.
