MCA in talks to raise up a residential Women’s Cricket Academy as request letter was handed over to the Chief Minister.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) intends to establish a residential cricket academy for women in Mumbai. In an official letter to state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, MCA president Ajinkya Naik requested a suitable piece of land in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) for the creation of a Residential Women’s Cricket Academy.
The proposed academy intends to function as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for women’s cricket, providing top-notch facilities such as a ground, indoor practice areas, gymnasium, support for sports medicine and physiotherapy, residential housing and academic classrooms. In order to enable female cricket players concentrate on their overall game and growth, the facility will offer a consolidated training and housing setting.
According to the MCA, female athletes in Mumbai currently encounter logistical difficulties and must travel great distances for practice sessions throughout the city and its outskirts. “The proposed residential setup will address these difficulties by providing a single integrated space for training, recovery, and education,” claimed the MCA.
The Chief Minister received the request letter at a celebration honouring the state’s women’s team members who recently won the World Cup. The State Government celebrated seven members of the state on Friday, including players Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, head coach Amol Muzumdar, bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi, and support staff Mamta Shirsulla and Purva Kate.
MCA president Ajinkya Naik said: “The Mumbai Cricket Association has always been committed to advancing cricket infrastructure and nurturing talent across all levels. Establishing a dedicated Residential Women’s Cricket Academy will be a major step forward in empowering women cricketers and strengthening Maharashtra’s leadership in promoting women’s sports.”
