MS Dhoni IPL journey to continue for another season, say CSK as he will don the gloves for the 2026 IPL season.
CSK confirm MS Dhoni will play IPL 2026.
The legendary Indian cricket player MS Dhoni will undoubtedly play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL season. The franchise itself has confirmed this, with CEO Kasi Viswanathan saying, “That’s right,” despite reports that the Sanju Samson trade issue is back on the CSK table.
Like Dhoni, Viswanathan has been with the team since its founding in 2008. He recently informed a young fan about the CSK talisman’s availability for the forthcoming season. He reinforced this point to this outlet on Friday, stating, “MS has told us that he will be available for the next season.”
In addition to being a personal friend of franchise owner N Srinivasan, Viswanathan has been the foundation of the five-time champions, much like Dhoni. Although Dhoni’s (44) IPL participation has been a frequent topic of discussion before a season for the past few years, the CSK CEO’s announcement should put an end to the rumours for at least the 2026 edition.
With Dhoni leading the squad in the absence of regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team did not play well last year and finished at the bottom. Dhoni might be hoping to end his career on a good note.
With the exception of two seasons during which the Super Kings were suspended, Dhoni has been a member of CSK. He has been a member of the IPL since its founding in 2008, thus if he shows up next season, it will be his 17th season with the team and his 19th overall. He has made 248 appearances for CSK, amassing 4,865 runs and helping the team win five titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
