Former Bangladesh captain Faruque Ahmed has been hospitalised yesterday following reports of a cardiac arrest.
The vice president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and former national captain Faruque Ahmed was brought to a hospital in Dhaka on Sunday after experiencing a heart arrest.
Around lunchtime, Faruque had excruciating chest discomfort. He was sent to the hospital, where medical professionals performed an angiography right away and discovered a blockage in one of his arteries.
Later that evening, a stent was successfully implanted, and he is presently being monitored in the CCU.
“He was feeling unwell since last night. This afternoon, he was taken to hospital. After an angiogram, a blockage was found in his heart, and doctors inserted a ring in the evening. Now he is in the CCU,” a BCB official told Daily Sun.
During his playing career, Faruque was captain of the national team from 1984 until 1999. Following retirement, he worked twice as a national selector.
After Nazmul Hassan resigned in August 2024, Faruque briefly assumed the role of interim BCB president. He served in that capacity for nine months until Aminul Islam Bulbul, the current BCB president, took over.
After winning the club category election in October 2024, Faruque joined the BCB under Aminul’s leadership and went on to be elected vice president.
