Shami set to be traded to Lucknow Super Giants after a rather uninspiring season with the Sunrisers last year.
Mohammed Shami, a well-known Indian player, will be traded by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG will likely pay SRH INR 10 crore (about US$1.12 million), the amount Shami was purchased for at the IPL 2025 mega auction, in an all-cash transaction.
It is understood that, subject to Shami’s approval, both sides have reached a conceptual agreement on the move. The IPL has given the teams till November 15 at 3 p.m. to submit the list of players they wish to cut from their 2025 rosters.
Since participating in the Champions Trophy final in March, Shami, 35, has not been able to reclaim his place in the India squad. Despite playing for Bengal in the current Ranji Trophy, Shami acknowledged that he was going through a “difficult phase” following his exclusion from both the ongoing two-Test series against South Africa and the home Test series against the West Indies in October.
Following a disappointing IPL season, he was also disqualified from the five-Test tour of England this summer. In just nine of SRH’s fourteen games, Shami claimed six wickets with an economy rate of 11.23 and an average of 56.16. In Hyderabad, the home of SRH, his economy increased to 12.35.
Shami had made a significant effect in the powerplay during his time at Gujarat Titans (2022–2024), and SRH had purchased him for INR 10 crore at the auction before to IPL 2025. He claimed 28 wickets in the opening six overs of the IPL in 2022 and 2023; Mohammed Siraj (15) and Trent Boult (20) were the next best in that phase. Due to an injury, he was unable to play in the 2024 Indian Premier League. In 2025, he had a terrible powerplay performance, taking five wickets in nine innings at an economy of 10.3.
