Voges to step down as Western Australia coach for franchise roles
Adam Voges will leave his position as Western Australia’s head coach at the end of the 2025–2026 season to pursue chances in franchise cricket. Voges will probably be considered to coach Australia after Andrew McDonald retires.
Following Justin Langer’s hiring as Australia’s coach in 2018–19, Voges took up the position and led Western Australia to an amazing run of success that included four One-Day Cup trophies and a hat-trick of Sheffield Shield wins, winning the double in three straight seasons from 2021–2022 to 2023–2024.
“I’m incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to be in the role of WA men’s team head coach over the past eight seasons,” Voges said. “We have enjoyed an incredible amount of success over the past four seasons, which is a credit to everyone involved with the side.
“It’s also been really pleasing to oversee many players from WA take the step to international duty and excel playing for their country. While it wasn’t an easy decision to make, I’m looking forward to pursuing more coaching opportunities in franchise cricket.”
Voges was in negotiations to become an assistant coach with the Trent Rockets in the Hundred. In the past, he worked with the national team and coached Australia A.
Voges and WA Cricket are still in talks regarding Voges remaining as the head coach of the Perth Scorchers in the BBL.
McDonald has been the Australia coach since early 2022, and his current contract expires in 2027. He has stated that he is unlikely to ask for an extension.
Voges, who played in 20 Test matches and concluded with an amazing average of 61.87, has led Western Australia at a period of high Australian presence. Josh Inglis and Cameron Green are currently in the Test team.
