Gueye receives applause from teammates after apology as he addressed players following 1-0 win at Old Trafford.
Idrissa Gueye applauded by Everton teammates after apologising for Michael Keane slap.
The Everton team applauded Idrissa Gueye after he apologised for his unusual red card during Monday’s victory over Manchester United.
When the midfielder slapped Michael Keane at Old Trafford, he became the first Premier League player to be sent out for assaulting a teammate in 17 years. David Moyes’ first victory at Old Trafford as a visiting manager in eighteen attempts and the club’s second victory at United in thirty-three years came from Everton’s valiant performance with ten men for eighty-five minutes, including stoppage time.
At halftime, Gueye had no chance to talk to Moyes or his teammates. Following the 1-0 victory, the Senegal international sought to speak to Keane in particular as well as the entire group, with the away dressing room on high. Gueye expressed regret to the defender for smacking him in the face. After the midfielder mishandled a pass inside his own penalty area, giving Bruno Fernandes a chance, they got into a furious altercation in the thirteenth minute.
Additionally, he complimented the team for completing the enormous assignment at Old Trafford and expressed regret for leaving them with it. The squad gave Gueye a round of applause in response to his remarks.
Even though Moyes acknowledged that he “likes my players fighting each other,” the 36-year-old could still face disciplinary action from Everton. Gueye’s case is probably going to follow the Scot’s usual disciplinary system for red and yellow cards, which includes fines.
Until the new year, Everton might not have their important midfield player. Before Gueye is available to play against Chelsea on December 13, Senegal may call him up for Africa Cup of Nations duty. Gueye will serve a three-match suspension against Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest. Senegal’s first match is scheduled for December 23. Two weeks prior to the start of a tournament, players may be released by their clubs. However, Senegal has not yet provided Everton with a release date.
