Archie Gray pulls no punches after Spurs loss, but sees positives that can be built upon in the upcoming games.
‘Not good enough’: Archie Gray blunt on Spurs defeats but finds positives from PSG trip.
Despite calling the outcome “not good enough,” Archie Grey thinks Tottenham can learn a lot from Wednesday night’s 5-3 Champions League loss at Paris Saint-Germain.
After Sunday’s 4-1 derby humiliation at Arsenal, the club’s pre-match discussions focused on starting over to bolster confidence for Saturday’s home match against Fulham. With just one league victory at their stadium this season under Thomas Frank, Spurs are anxious for a win. In a broader sense, their home league record is three wins out of twenty games.
Spurs’ analysis of the match against PSG was peculiar. The fact that it was PSG, the star-studded, reigning European champions, and that Frank’s squad had set the bar so low with their performance at Arsenal tainted the perception. From a Spurs perspective, the fact that they shown some attacking impetus was heartening. Randal Kolo Muani, on loan from PSG, scored two goals, including his first in Spurs colours, while Richarlison scored his sixth goal of the year. There was combat and hostility as Frank battled man-for-man in midfield.
The team’s concerning run was prolonged by the loss. They have won three of their twelve games across all competitions since the end of September, while they have lost five.
“It’s disappointing to lose games of football and we’re not happy after that one,” Gray said. “But we’ve got more positives to take from this game than the last game. We scored three goals so that was obviously pretty positive. It was always going to be a tough game, we were playing probably the best team in Europe. But we showed positives we can take into Fulham. The Arsenal game took a bit out of us but we were always going to bounce back.
“The fans were unbelievable [in Paris]. They have stuck with us through a lot of hard times and we can’t thank them enough for the support they give us, especially after a few tough games. Hopefully there were a few positives that we could give them. It’s not good enough these losses at a club like Tottenham but we’re going to look to improve that.”
