Hazlewood suffers Achilles soreness during hamstring rehab.
Josh Hazlewood reported experiencing Achilles tightness in the early stages of his recovery from a hamstring injury, which has further damaged his chances of participating in the Ashes series.
Hazlewood was supposed to travel to Brisbane to continue his recuperation with the Test team, but that journey has been postponed. After suffering a hamstring injury against Victoria last month, he was out for the beginning of the series. Last week, he resumed bowling off a few paces in Sydney.
“Josh Hazlewood reported achilles soreness this week during his rehabilitation from recent hamstring injury,” a Cricket Australia statement said. “It is a low-grade issue and he is expected to recommence running and bowling next week.”
Although Hazlewood’s chances of making an appearance in Adelaide were never realistic, he may now have to compete to make an appearance in Melbourne or Sydney.
In recent years, Hazlewood has experienced a recurring pattern of calf and Achilles problems, as well as other injuries flare up right after a major injury.
He missed three Tests in 2022–2023 after suffering a side strain in the first home Test of the summer. After his first Test in early January, he continued to experience Achilles soreness, which prevented him from participating in the entire early 2023 trip of India.
Due to Sean Abbott’s hamstring injury, Australia’s pace-bowling depth has been put to the test in the early Ashes. Pat Cummins was on the verge of making a comeback at the Gabba, but he was postponed until Adelaide.
