R Sridhar named as Sri Lanka’s new fielding coach and will be in the role until the conclusion of the men’s T20 World Cup next year.
Up to the end of the T20 World Cup, which takes place from February 7 to March 8, R Sridhar has been named Sri Lanka’s men’s fielding coach. From 2014 till 2021, Sridhar was the fielding coach for the senior Indian men’s team.
In May of last year, Sridhar, a Level 3 qualified BCCI coach, led a 10-day fielding program for the best teams in Sri Lanka in Colombo.
“Sri Lankan players have always stood for instinctive brilliance, resilience, and collective spirit,” Sridhar said, having been appointed to the new job on Wednesday. “My role is not to impose a system, but to nurture an environment where athleticism, awareness, and pride in the field can grow naturally.
“Sri Lanka’s traditional strengths–quick hands, sharp reflexes, and fearless intent, can be further enhanced by creating realistic, game-like learning environments.”
With Julian Wood and Rene Ferdinands joining as batting coach and spin bowling coach, respectively, in October, Sridhar’s appointment is the most recent in a small coaching change for the men’s squad. It also follows a poor Asia Cup and tour of Pakistan, when one of the main issues was Sri Lanka’s fielding mistakes.
According to SLC’s statement, Sridhar has already been appointed to work with the men’s team before to the World Cup series against Pakistan and England.
