Maresca plays down Man City speculation and says that he is committed to staying with Chelsea in the present.
Enzo Maresca plays down Manchester City link and insists future lies with Chelsea.
Enzo Maresca has downplayed his connections to Manchester City and stated that he anticipates taking over as head coach of Chelsea for the upcoming campaign.
Maresca’s contract expires in 2029, and he hasn’t stated that he wants to quit, but he has cast doubt on his future by refusing to deny rumours that his relationship with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy has deteriorated.
But there is increasing interest in the Italian, who surprised everyone after last week’s victory over Everton by claiming that the lack of support prior to the match had caused him to have his “worst 48 hours” since joining Chelsea. The Italian was mentioned as a possible Pep Guardiola replacement if the Spaniard departs City next summer.
“It doesn’t affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation,” Maresca said on Friday. “And in this moment, there is no time for these kind of things. First of all, because I have a contract here until 2029 probably. My focus, I said many times, is just about this club and I’m very proud to be here. But again, it’s speculation. One week ago I was [being talked about] in Italy, the same with Juventus. So I don’t pay attention because I know that is not true.”
According to some reports, Maresca’s cryptic remarks during the Everton match are a result of his desire to join City, where he assisted Guardiola during the 2022–2023 campaign. The former manager of Leicester stated, “It’s important to understand why this news was there.” “But I don’t care at all; it’s not my job.”
Maresca, whose team will go to Newcastle on Saturday, did not say who he was accusing of failing to provide him with adequate support. Since last weekend, he claimed to have had conversations with Chelsea’s sporting directors. “I don’t know, to be honest,” he said when asked why he believed the news about City had been released.
