Martha Stewart latest marquee investor in Swansea City as she joins Snoop Dogg and Luka Modric by making minority investment.
The most recent celebrity to co-own Swansea City Football Club is American lifestyle icon Martha Stewart.
Stewart will become a minority owner of the Welsh team, which competes in the second division of the English football pyramid, alongside rapper Snoop Dogg and football player Luka Modric. Two of the club’s owners, Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen, announced the announcement in a post on the website. The amount of the investment was not disclosed in the post.
The action highlights the growing importance of US owners in British football, who seem to be lured by the sport’s rich history and possible financial gains, at least for teams outside of the Premier League.
While Stewart was present at last week’s thrilling 2-1 comeback against Wrexham AFC, a north Wales team that has won three straight promotions thanks to the substantial financial support of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, who has changed his name from Rob McElhenney, the retired American football star Tom Brady is a minority owner at Birmingham City.
A Disney television program that follows Reynolds and Mac’s success with Wrexham has been developed. The chief executive of Swansea City stated in a podcast last month that the team is also considering purchasing its stadium, which is owned by the council.
After creating a massive retail and lifestyle brand around her catering business, Stewart is frequently recognised as the first self-made billionaire in the United States. According to her website, she has authored 99 books.
Despite her 2004 conviction for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and other offences related to her sale of shares in the business ImClone Systems, the “Martha Stewart” brand has been sold multiple times and is still well-known, especially in the United States. Stewart was incarcerated for five months.
She and Snoop Dogg have developed an odd friendship in recent years, and they will both compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The celebrities’ minority investment amounts have not been made public. However, on the UK companies registration, neither Snoop Dogg nor Modric—who joined AC Milan last year from Real Madrid—are identified as having substantial ownership over the team.
