Brennan Johnson eyed by Bournemouth as Semenyo replacement with the latter set to depart for Manchester City.
Bournemouth target Brennan Johnson as potential Semenyo replacement.
Antoine Semenyo, who is expected to sign a £65 million contract with Manchester City, may be replaced by Brennan Johnson of Tottenham, according to Bournemouth.
In order to activate the Ghanaian winger’s release clause, which was added last summer when Semenyo extended his contract at Bournemouth, City is stepping up negotiations with Semenyo’s team.
Rival teams are still interested in the 25-year-old, but City is the only team to press forward with a transfer.
Bournemouth, who acquired Semenyo from the Championship team for £10 million in 2023, is entitled to 20% of the proceeds from his anticipated transfer.
Johnson is also a favourite of Crystal Palace, and Spurs are rumoured to be interested in a player they acquired from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million a little over two years ago. It’s unknown if Spurs would like to loan or sell the Wales international.
Johnson has only started one of Tottenham’s last seven games despite struggling to get playing time under Thomas Frank this season.
Last season, he was Spurs’ top scorer and scored the game-winning goal in the Europa League final to secure their first significant trophy since 2008. However, since Frank took Ange Postecoglou’s place in June, the 24-year-old has not flourished.
Thmoas Frank maintained Johnson is an important member of his squad. “Brennan is very important for us,” the Dane said. “Maybe he didn’t get many minutes, but unfortunately, we can only play 11 players.
“We spoke about it before with Mo [Kudus], who has come in and put his stamp on that right-winger position. Then, [on] the left, we tried different solutions.
