Mathys Tel eager for loan switch as he seeks more playing time with Paris FC, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray keen.
Tottenham’s Mathys Tel open to loan for more game time as World Cup looms.
After becoming dissatisfied with his lack of playing time under Thomas Frank following a £30 million transfer from Bayern Munich, Mathys Tel has told Tottenham that he is open to depart on loan.
According to reports, Paris FC and the Turkish teams Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have expressed interest in loaning the 20-year-old forward till the end of the current campaign. Spurs, who are reportedly reluctant to let Tel go after losing Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35 million, are also rumoured to have been approached by clubs in Italy and Spain.
After recently being selected captain of France’s Under-21 team, Tel, who began Tottenham’s 2-1 FA Cup loss to Aston Villa on Saturday, wants consistent playing time to increase his chances of making Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad. This season, he has scored one goal in nine league replacement appearances and two goals in five Premier League starts. Tel was an unused replacement in the Europa League final and spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Spurs.
Tottenham exercised their option to make Tel’s transfer permanent two days after Frank took Ange Postecoglou’s place in June. The decision to exclude him from their Champions League team in September is reported to have taken him by surprise. Dominic Solanke, an injured striker, was replaced by Tel in December.
According to people close to Tel, there is no indication that he wants to depart permanently and that he will continue to put in a lot of effort to gain a spot on the team. He would, however, want a chance to gain some momentum in his career after leaving Bayern in pursuit of more first-team participation.
