Litton and rest of Bangladesh players uncertain on T20 WC though still enough time for players to prepare mentally should they take part.
Litton Das: Bangladesh players in the dark over T20 World Cup plans.
As they await the ICC’s decision about their venue, Bangladesh captain Litton Das has acknowledged the uncertainties surrounding their participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, Litton believes there is still time for players to mentally get ready if they want to compete in the competition, which starts on February 7.
All of Bangladesh’s group-stage matches are planned in India, but the BCB and the government of Bangladesh currently insist they will not send the squad there. Although a ruling is anticipated by January 21, the ICC has not yet released an official comment on the subject.
“If we had known who our group opponents were [in the World Cup] or which country we were going to, that would have helped,” Litton said following Rangpur Riders’ exit from the BPL. “You have seen that we have announced the squad, but until now, no player knows which country we are going to or whom we will play against. Like me, the whole of Bangladesh is now uncertain.”
Since the BCB first voiced its concerns on January 4 and the World Cup’s opening match is three weeks away on February 7, the standoff has lasted for almost three weeks. On the first day, Bangladesh will play the West Indies in Kolkata, where they will also play their following two games. After that, they will play their final group encounter in Mumbai.
Litton even asked the reporters if they were convinced Bangladesh would participate. “Are you sure that we are going to the World Cup?” he asked. “In reality, there is still a long time left before the World Cup, and we are not even sure whether we will go or not.”
Litton stated that the situation was far from ideal but declined to comment on the political tensions between Bangladesh and India or the BCB’s official position on the issue. The players would still adjust to the final judgement, he said. “Many things in life are not ideal, but you have to accept them according to the situation,” he stated. “Playing so many matches in the BPL was not ideal either, but we still had to play.”
