Bangladesh and Netherlands seal their spot in 2026 Women’s T20 WC marking the latter’s first time at the tournament.
After winning the qualification tournament in Nepal, Bangladesh and Netherlands have guaranteed their spots in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Although Bangladesh has participated in the women’s T20 World Cup since hosting it in 2014, the Netherlands has never advanced to the main tournament before.
Following victories in the Super Six stage against Thailand and the USA, respectively, both teams have been on winning streaks in the qualifiers and earned spots for the major event later in the year in England.
In Mulpani, Thailand sent Bangladesh, who had advanced to the Super Sixes without losing a game, in to bat.
They lost Sharmin Akhter in the second over and opener Dilara Akter on the opening ball of the match, but wicketkeeper-batter Juairiya Ferdous and Sobhana Mostary each scored a half-century to steady the batting.
For the third wicket, the two contributed 110 runs. Mostary scored 59 off 42 balls, while Ferdous scored 56 off 45. After both fell in rapid succession, there was another setback, but Bangladesh was able to score 165 for 8.
Bangladesh won by 39 runs as fast bowler Marufa Akter took 3 for 25 and Ritu Moni and Shorna Akter each took two wickets.
At Kirtipur, the Netherlands defeated the USA by 21 runs using the DLS system.
With Hannah Landheer returning 3 for 30 and Caroline de Lange taking 2 for 27, the USA, batting first, were limited to 129 for 7 in 20 overs.
Heather Siegers’ 28 off 12 and Phebe Molkenboer’s undefeated 46 helped the Netherlands reach 90 for 2 in 12 overs before rain interfered. At that point, the Netherlands had a significant advantage against DLS and won the match.
