[Saba Sports News] Darren Bravo, a renowned West Indies batter, has made a significant decision to step away from cricket following being left out of the ODI squad against England. The selection committee’s surprising exclusion of Bravo, despite his outstanding performance in the recently concluded Super50 tournament, has prompted this decision.
Bravo’s exceptional display in the Super50 Cup saw him clinch the Golden Bat award for his stellar 416 runs in eight innings at an impressive average of 83.2. Additionally, he led the triumphant Trinidad and Tobago team in the tournament reflected his leadership prowess.
Expressing his sentiments through an Instagram post, Bravo highlighted the lack of communication from the management, leaving him in a state of uncertainty.
“I’ve taken some time to ponder and wonder what’s my next step moving forward as a cricketer. At this point in my career it’s not easy or should I say it takes a lot to continue to find the energy, the passion, commitment and discipline to be able to perform to the best of my ability and put myself in a position to make my return to international cricket. Without any level communication I’ve been left in a very dark place,” Bravo wrote in his statement.
In a thoughtful reflection, Bravo pointed out the significant number of players in the regional teams and suggested that if he could not secure a spot after performing well in regional tournaments, it implied that “the writing is on the wall.”
“At the moment there’s three teams representing the region in multiple formats/series. That’s approximately 40-45 players and if I can’t be in any of these teams after competing in our regional tournaments and scoring runs, therefore they are basically telling me that the writing is on the wall,” he added.
While emphasizing that this is not a permanent exit, Bravo clarified his intention to step aside to provide opportunities for emerging talents.
“I’m not giving up but I believe it’s best to step away just for a bit and maybe make some room for a young and upcoming talent. I will end by wishing each and everyone all the very best. “I’ve lived my dream,”” Bravo concluded.
Bravo has represented the West Indies in 56 Tests, 122 ODIs and 26 T20Is in which he smashed 3,538, 3,109 and 405 runs respectively.
