ACC introduces new Women’s U19 T20 Asia Cup during it’s latest executive board meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
ACC introducing this new tournament comes following on the back of a successful first edition of the U19 T20 Women’s World Cup.
This new tournament is expected to be held biennially so that the Asian teams can prepare well for the Under 19 World Cup.
ACC plans to conduct the inaugural edition of the tournament in mid-December 2024. It is unclear what the venue of the 2024 Asia Cup will be, and how many teams will take part.
“Today marks a pivotal moment for cricket in Asia,” ACC president Jay Shah said. The introduction of the Women’s U-19 Asia Cup is a monumental achievement. It will provide a much-needed platform for young women cricketers to develop their skills.
“This initiative strengthens the future of women’s cricket in Asia. We are proud of the lasting impact these decisions will have. This will not only benefit the member nations of the ACC, but also have global impact.”
The December timeline is a smart one for the ACC. This will ensure that the players are prepared for the U19 World Cup.
The Women’s Under 19 World Cup takes place in Malaysia in January-February 2025.
This is the second major tournament that will enter the Women’s cricket junior calendar.
