ACC postpone the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup due to weather conditions and potential health hazard in Sri Lanka.
ACC postpone the second edition of the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on June 6 in Sri Lanka.
“The ACC is committed to providing opportunities for young women cricketers to develop their skills and compete at the highest level,” Naqvi wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We understand the strategic significance of this tournament in shaping the future of women’s cricket in Asia, and we will work diligently to reschedule the event at the earliest possible date.”
According to Naqvi, the SLC president Shammi Silva wrote to the ACC requesting a postponement of the event owing to weather and health concerns, and the ACC chose to do so. Due to the strengthening of the southwest monsoon, Sri Lanka’s meteorological department issued a weather advisory warning last week that warned of strong winds and heavy rains in several areas.
According to the ACC, the tournament’s revised dates will be revealed soon. India A defeated Bangladesh A by 31 runs in the final to win the first edition, which took place in Hong Kong in 2023. There, Shreyanka Patil won player of the series. There were eight teams who competed in the competition, and 15 games—including the knockout stages—were played.
Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, had previously stated that the Indian board had not informed the ACC of any decision pertaining to India’s participation in the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup or the Asia Cup. The six-team men’s Asia Cup is scheduled to be hosted by India in September.
